Fugitive Mubarak crony transferred to Spanish hospital

MENA, Saturday 18 Jun 2011

Hussein Salem, business tycoon closely linked with the ousted Mubarak regime, recently captured by Spanish authorities, has been transferred to a hospital in Spain for health problems

According to a Spanish medical source, quoted by Egypt's official news agency, MENA, Egypt’s fugitive business tycoon, Hussein Salem, is currently hospitalised in Spain under strict police guard.

Salem was moved to the hospital after suffering health problems shortly after his capture on an international arrest warrant issued by Interpol. A doctor at the hospital said that Salem did not seem in good health but that his state is not critical.

Salem, a confidante of ousted president Mubarak, has been on the run since 3 February; he was arrested in his villa in Majorca, Spain, last Wednesday. Salem is expected to stand trial on charges of corruption and money laundering.
