The days during which the parliamentary elections will take place will not be public holidays except for workers at schools where polling stations are located, announced Ahmed Zaki Badr, the minister of local and administrative development.
Badr made the announcement at a meeting of the National Committee for Crisis and Disaster Management, adding that voters will be provided with all necessities to facilitate the election process and that the committee’s goal is for voters to be able to reach their polling stations and vote with ease.
The first phase of Egypt’s parliamentary elections will start on 17-18 October for Egyptians abroad and 18-19 October for voters inside Egypt, while the second phase of the elections will start on 21-22 November for Egyptians abroad and 22-23 November for Egyptians inside Egypt respectively.
Badr added that weather conditions as well as the needs of the elderly and the disabled will be taken into account, pointing out that chairs, umbrellas and medical services will be provided at all polling stations.
The prime minister’s adviser, Refaat Qomsan, said that the elections will take place in 11,000 polling stations nationwide, each in a different school, adding that Egypt has 55.6 million citizens eligible for voting.
Qomsan also announced that the first stage results will be announced on 30 October, while the second stage results will be announced by 4 December, adding that the parliament is expected to hold its first meeting before the end of the year.
