A drop in temperatures will be witnessed across Egypt until next Sunday with some rain accompanied by wind in the coastal cities, the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) spokesman Wahid Seoudi told Ahram Online on Wednesday.
The Mediterranean city of Alexandria witnessed heavy rains in the early hours of Wednesday, causing floods throughout the city.
Seoudi said that rains are expected to increase on Friday in the canal cities of Ismailia, Suez and Port Said.
Cairo is expected to witness a high of 24 degrees Celsuis and a low of 19. Alexandria temperature will peak at 24 with a low of 21.
The Red Sea resort of Sharm El-Sheikh is expected to see a high of 28 on Wednesday with a low of 22, while Hurghada will witness a high of 28 and a low of 21.
EMA forcasted that on Thursday, heavy rains will fall on the northeast coast governorates of Damietta, Ismailia, and Suez.
The statement also read that rains are expected to fall all over Egypt on Thursday and Friday.
On Sunday, five people were killed in Alexandria in accidents resulting from the combination of heavy rains and poor weather infrastructure.
The city of Alexandria, the second largest in Egypt, was flooded due to heavy rain that hit the city Sunday morning.
Heavy rains paralysed traffic and electricity, causing power outages in many districts across the city, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported.
The incident resulted in the resignation of the city's governor Hani El-Mesery on the same day.
The head of the cabinet has travelled to the governorate following immediate orders by Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to solve the problem.
