Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday to attend the third India Africa Forum Summit where presidents and representatives of 40 African countries will discuss means of developing economic cooperation and mutual investments between India and African countries.

Egypt’s participation comes amid its efforts to strengthen its economic ties with various developing powers, especially economically developing countries such as India.

Indian-African relations have been steadily evolving in recent years, making India one of the major trading partners of Africa.

El-Sisi’s visit to India marks his first visit to the country since he was sworn into office in June 2014.

The Egyptian president is expected to meet with his Indian counterpart President Shri Pranab Mukherjee as well as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a number of Indian businessmen and senior officials.

The Egyptian leader will discuss possibilities of Indian investments in Egypt, especially the new development projects in areas around the Suez Canal, such as the planned industrial and logistics hub.

El-Sisi started his foreign tour on Tuesday with a visit to the United Arab Emirates before heading to India. Bahrain will be his third and final destination before heading back to Egypt.
His last foreign trip was his tour of Asia, which took him to Singapore, China, and Indonesia from 30 August to 5 September.
