Khaled El-Sadr, the secretary-general of Egypt's lower house parliament – or the House of Representatives – announced Thursday that candidates who have won seats in the first stage of Egypt's parliamentary elections, held between 17 and 28 October in 14 governorates, will be able to obtain their membership cards beginning on 3 November, or next Tuesday.

El-Sadr told parliamentary correspondents that a special committee will be formed to receive the newly-elected deputies on Tuesday to help them register their names and get their own 2015-2020 membership cards from 10am to 5pm on a daily basis. "The new deputies will also be allowed to make a tour of the House's main meeting hall and affiliated committees," said El-Sadr.

El-Sadr indicated that the Higher Election Committee in charge of supervising the polls should first send to the office of the secretary-general of the House an official list of the victorious candidates so they can be eligible to receive their own membership cards – whether they are independents or party-based candidates.

A winning candidate will be required to fill a special membership form, giving a detailed statement about his personal and career life.

Egypt's new parliament will be composed of 596 members – with 448 as independents, 120 as party MPs and 18 as appointees.

The first stage should see around 286 MPs winning seats.
