Six security personnel were injured in an explosion targeting an armoured security vehicle in Egypt's North Sinai city of El-Arish, the Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported.
A security source told MENA that the explosion was caused by a bomb planted to specifically target security forces in the city.
The explosion injured one policeman and five military members, all of whom were rushed to the nearest hospital.
Last week, the Egyptian Armed Forces spokesperson announced that the army had gained full control over the North Sinai areas of El-Arish, Rafah and Sheikh Zuwaid after successful raids on "terrorist strongholds" and weapons caches.
On 7 October, Egypt's Armed Forces announced the commencement of the second stage of Martyr’s Right, its most recent North Sinai operation against Islamist militants.
Hundreds of police and army members have been killed in terrorist attacks in the past year-and-a-half in North Sinai, while authorities say security operations have resulted in the deaths of hundreds of militants in the governorate.
The Islamist group Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis has claimed responsibility for most of the attacks against security forces in North Sinai.
