Senior figure Tarek El-Mahdi talks to protesters in Tahrir promising to release revolutionaries in military prisons

Major General Tarek El-Mahdi, who is currently heading Egypt’s broadcast networks and television, entered Tahrir Square where thousands are demonstrating against the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces for not meeting the revolution’s demands.

El-Mahdi went to give a speech to the demonstrators.  According to a protester in Tahrir, El-Mahdy said that he has collected the names of the revolutionaries currently detained in military prisons and will assure their release.

However, demonstrators started chanting against the military council, said the protester.

El-Mahdi told Egyptian radio that he went to Tahrir to meet the protesters who were on hunger strike but couldn't reach them. He said that while trying to explain the reason for his visit on stage, a young man tried to shout him down. Unable to speak, he left the square.
