More than a hundred Copts protested today in front of the Clerical Council at Saint Mark's Cathedral in Abbasiyya, demanding the removal of Bishop Paul, chief of the Council
The protesters encircled the Council, preventing the bishop and the rest of the Council’s priests from exiting the Cathedral.
Bishop Paul is accused by the protesters of handling their problems with “intransigence and arrogance,” especially problems regarding marriage and divorce. Consequently, they are demanding that the Church's Patriarch, Pope Shenouda III, removes the bishop from his position.
