Egypt’s administrative prosecution has referred seven officials to a disciplinary court on charges of negligence that led to a huge fire at a main convention centre in Cairo back in March.
The fire which took place at the International Convention Centre in the Nasr city district of northeast Cairo left 40 people injured.
It was caused by an electrical short circuit
Prosecutors on Sunday said the massive fire resulted in losses worth LE5.8 million, state news agency MENA reported.
The seven defendants were referred to court after investigators found them guilty of negligence to carry out maintenance of fire-fighting devices for years or purchase necessary equipment as well as failure to notify about the fire
Firefighters spent more than two hours at the time to battle the blaze in the sprawling centre which hosts many major local and international conferences.
The armed forces sent 25 fire trucks and six helicopters at the time to transfer 30 tonnes of water to put out the fire.
