The Egyptian Health Ministry said Saturday that the total number of wounded from clashes in Alexandria Friday reached two. The ministry added that the two have been moved to the university hospital and suffer from mild wounds.
Clashes in Alexandria erupted when a demonstration was attacked by thugs wielding knives. The military interfered and forcefully ended the demonstration, shooting live ammunition in the air and beating demonstrators. Several were arrested.
The demonstration was organised to denounce the role of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), Egypt’s interim ruling body, for not responding to the demands of sit-in protests organised throughout Egypt, including in Alexandria.
Several demonstrators fled the violence and returned back to the sit-in held in Saad Zaghloul Square in Alexandria.
