Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and France's interior minister Bernard Cazeneuve have expressed on Tuesday their concerns over the spread of the phenomenon of "foreign fighters" joining militant groups in the Middle East.

El-Sisi and Cazeneuve discussed in Paris several issues related to fighting terrorism and the importance of unified efforts in combating.

According to presidency spokesman Alaa Youssef, the Egyptian president expressed his condolences for the victims of the recent Paris attacks, praising the French security apparatus for showing professionalism and prompt reaction.

El-Sisi affirmed that Egypt stands in solidarity with the French people and government in dealing with this "mutual threat."

The French interior minister praised the Egyptian role in combating terrorism, whether on a domestic, regional or international level.

Both sides agreed the terrorist attacks that have taken place around the world necessitate the unification of international efforts to fight terrorism and strengthening existing coordination.

They also stressed the need to target the sources of funding for militant groups.

El-Sisi was also informed of measures taken by French authorities regarding an assault in Paris in Monday on members of Egyptian media outlets.

A video went viral online showing three men verbally and physically assaulting TV presenter Ahmed Moussa, a strong supporter of President El-Sisi. The attackers can be heard on the clip speaking in what appears to be an Egyptian dialect.

Cazeneuve said that the group was arrested and is currently under investigation.
