Egyptian judge Mahmoud El-Khodeiry has threatened to move protests to Sharm El-Sheikh, where ousted president Hosni Mubarak is detained, if he the former president is not tried in Cairo

Mahmoud  El-Khodeiry, the former head of the court of cassation, told a crowd of protesters in Saad Zaghloul square in Alexandria on Sunday that the people of Egypt will move their protests and sit-ins to Sharm El-Sheikh, if the law is not applied and Mubarak is not moved to a prison in Cairo. Mubarak has been in the Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital after he suffered from ill health while being questioned last April.

Mubarak is set to stand trial on 3 August and is charged with killing the protesters during the revolution, wasting public funds, and profiteering while he held the role of president from 1981 to 2011. El-Khodeiry insists that Egyptian law should not be thwarted with Mubarak being tried in Sharm El-Sheikh just because he refuses to return to Cairo.

El-Khodeiry, a fierce advoate of judicial independence, has also claimed that there are thugs that have infilitated protests across the country to tarnish the image of the peaceful sit-ins. He advised protesters to end protests if they felt that the number of thugs present are on the rise or outnumber the protesters themselves.
