Egypt's foreign minister Sameh Shoukry is traveling to Rome Sunday to attend a ministerial-level conference on Libya called for by Italy and the United States.
The conference is meant to coordinate talks between Libyan factions, leading to the formation of a national unity government capable of combatting the Islamic State group.
A political agreement that was reached in July in Skhirat, Morocco aims to achieve peaceful political transition and the establishment of a national unity government.
Libya currently has two governments fighting for control of the country, while Islamic State militants are attempting to exploit the security gap.
