Field marshal Hussein Tantawi head of Supreme Council of the Armed Forces
A military official source denied claims made by AFP that Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, head of Egypt’s ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, was the one responsible for the decision made during Egypt’s January 25 Revolution to cut all communication services.
AFP stated on Friday that Mubarak “has pinned some of the blame on his successor.”
The military source added that the armed forces should be left out of such accusations, since its stand in support of Egypt’s revolution was clear from the start.
AFP stated on Friday that in the case filed against Mubarak and two former ministers accusing them of "damaging the economy" and fining them a total of $90 million for the telephone and internet shutdown during Egypt's uprising, the ousted president alleged that the decision to cut the internet was taken by a commission that included Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, and that he (Mubarak) had not been consulted.
