The cause of Monday’s fire at Al-Sherouk hospital in Alexandria’s Gelim district is still unknown

An extensive fire broke out Monday morning at a privately owned hospital in Egypt's Mediterranean city of Alexandria, leaving four dead, the health ministry has said.

Twenty-seven others were wounded in the blaze at the Al-Sherouk hospital in the Gelim district in the eastern part of the city, health ministry undersecretary Magdy Hegazy said.

Ten fire trucks successfully extinguished the fire, provincial security official Omar Gaballah told Ahram Arabic.

Gaballah said that a probe is underway to identify the cause of the blaze.
