The El-Nadeem Centre for Rehabilitation of Victims of Violence says Egyptian authorities attempted to shut down the non-governmental organisation on Wednesday in accordance with an order issued by a body affiliated with the health ministry.
According to El-Nadeem, a policeman and an engineer paid a visit to the NGO with a copy of the order, which cited infringements that the Facebook statement did not specify.
Lawyer Taher Abul-Naser eventually managed to postpone the execution of the order until El-Nadeem can contact the health ministry to know the reasons behind the decision.
The health ministry is yet to issue a statement on the order.
Founded in 1993, El-Nadeem provides support for victims of violence and torture and condemns such acts.
