Egypt strongly condemns the attacks against the African Union military base in Somalia that killed 43 Ethiopian soldiers on Thursday, foreign ministry spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid said Saturday.
"We send our condolences to the Ethiopian people and to the families of the victims as Egypt supports the African Union and the Somalian government in its fight against terrorism," Abu Zeid said in a statement.
The attack, which took place in the central town of Halgan, was carried out by Somalia's Al Shabaab militant group against a military base for the African Union's AMISOM force.
The base is made up of troops from African nations supporting Somalia's Western-backed government and army in the fight against the al Qaeda-linked militants.
