A military court sentenced to prison 18 supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi for rioting and allegedly belonging to the banned Muslim Brotherhood group, with verdicts ranging from three years to life in prison.

Two defendants were sentenced to three years in prison, 10 were sentenced to 15 years in absentia, six received life sentences, and three were acquitted.

The defendants were initially charged with involvement in “violence incidences” during protests where they clashed with police in February 2015 in Minya's Samallout in Upper Egypt.
