An army conscript was killed and three were injured in a bombing in North Sinai on Wednesday, Ahram Arabic news website reported.

According to security sources and eyewitnesses who spoke to Ahram Arabic news website, an explosive device detonated when an armoured security vehicle was sweeping the area.

The injured conscripts were transferred to El-Arish Military Hospital, while the body of the killed soldier was transferred to a military hospital in Suez governorate.

Egypt's security forces have been fighting a decade-long Islamist insurgency in parts of North Sinai that spiked following the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in 2013.

Hundreds of policemen and soldiers have been killed by militants. The army has also said security operations have killed hundreds of militants.
