6 October will be a paid, public holiday for both the public and private sector to commemorate the 43rd anniversary of 1973 war against Isreal, the Minister of Manpower Mohamed Safaan confirmed on Wednesday.

The 6 October anniversary, which falls on Thursday this year, commemorates Egypt’s victory in the conflict and the return of the Sinai Peninsula.

Celebrations are normally held in public squares.
