Court finds the two policemen guilty for the manslaughter of Khaled Said, whose brutal death in June of last year made him an icon for change in Egypt

Alexandria's Criminal Court has sentenced low-ranking policemen Mahmoud Salah Mahmoud and Awad Ismael Soliman to seven years in prison for the death of Khaled Said in June 2010.

Upon hearing the sentence being handed down, the families of the two convicted policemen set about vandalising the court room and attacked Khaled Said's family and lawyers.

The killing in broad daylight of Said, who was 28, by two policemen was seen by Egyptians as the distillation of the rampant brutality and impunity of the Mubarak regime.
