The Freedom and Justice Party stressed the importance of having an independent judiciary in Egypt as a pivotal step toward 'prosperity'

The Muslim Brotherhood’s political wing, the Freedom and Justice Party stressed the importance of having an independent judiciary in Egypt as a pivotal step toward prosperity.

The party’s Deputy Secretary General, Ahmed Shehata, said the coming president should have no authority over the judicial system for the same purpose.

He added that the supervision over judiciary should subsequently be the responsibility of the Supreme Judicial Council and not the minister of justice.

Shehata spoke about the Freedom and Justice’s perspective on the judicial system during a press conference held in Zakazik in the Delta region to introduce the party ahead of this month’s parliamentary elections.

The independence of Egypt’s judiciary have been called for by many from across the political spectrum since the January 25 Revolution.
