Egyptian border guards have arrested over the past 20 days 418 people of different nationalities who were attempting to illegally cross into Libya, the Egyptian Armed Forces announced in a statement on Wednesday.
The statement added the border jumpers were arrested at the border city of Salloum.
Despite a warning by the Egyptian government against travel to Libya, the country is still frequently used as a transit point for migrants from Egypt and other nations seeking to cross the Mediterranean for Europe.
The Armed Forces statement also said that border guards arrested 15 people of different nationalities who were attempting to enter Egypt through its southern border with Sudan.
