Egyptian MP Sahar El-Hawari of the Support Egypt Majority Coalition and her brother Hazem were transferred Monday to Beheira governorate's Damanhour prison, having been sentenced to five years in prison for falsely declaring bankruptcy and failing to pay millions of Egyptian pounds in debt.

On Sunday, the Alexandria Economic Court sentenced MP El-Hawari and her brother Hazem, both members of the dissolved Egyptian Football Association's board, to five years in prison over charges of falsely declaring bankruptcy to evade paying EGP 238 million in debt to the Alexandria Steel Company, as well as illegally obtaining three loans from the Bank of Cairo in collusion with a bank official.

The Hawari's brother Hatem is currently wanted for arrest in the same case but has so far evaded capture. The defendants can appeal the court ruling before the Court of Cassation.

Last month, the Egyptian House of Representatives legislative committee approved stripping El-Hawari of her membership.

Egypt's High Administrative Court ordered in March that the board of the Egyptian Football Association be dissolved on the grounds that the board's 2016 election results were invalid.
