The Egyptian foreign ministry has issued a statement saying that Egypt denounces "in the strongest terms" a terrorist knife attack in Marseille on Sunday that left two people dead.

In the statement issued late on Sunday, the Egyptian government presented its condolences to the French government and people regarding the deadly attack, which took place at Marseille train station.

Two women were stabbed to death in the attack, which has since been claimed by the ISIS militant group.

The suspect was killed on the spot by French military police.

The ministy reaffirmed Egypt's rejection of all forms of terrorism and violence, which seek to destabilize societies and harm citizens.

It also renewed its call for the world to stand up against terrorism and those who support it, whether through funding or other means.
