Egypt's defence minister heads to India for military cooperation talks

Egypian Minister of Defence Sedki Sobhi departed for India on Sunday following an invitation from his Indian counterpart Nirmala Sitharaman to discuss enhancing bilateral military cooperation, Egypt's state-run MENA news agency reported.

Sobhi is set to discuss security coordination with a range of Indian officials.

Egyptian-Indian relations have been steadily evolving in recent years.

Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi first visited India in October 2015.

The Egyptian president also visited New Delhi in 2016, where he signed a maritime transportation agreement with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
