Egypt’s army said its air forces launched strikes in North Sinai, killing a number of terrorists behind a deadly attack on a North Sinai mosque that killed at least 235 worshippers during the Friday prayer.

In an official statement late on Friday, army spokesman Tamer El-Refaie said the air forces destroyed vehicles used by the terrorists to execute the attack and killed the elements inside.

El-Refaie said other terroist hideouts were also targeted by the forces.

“The law enforcement forces in North Sinai remain in cooperation with the air forces to comb terrorist hideouts and find and eliminate the rest of extremists,” the statement read, with the spokesman offering his condolences to the victims.

The army’s strikes come a few hours after Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi vowed a ‘brute’ response following a terror attack that killed at least 235 worshippers following Friday prayers at a North Sinai Sufi Al-Radwa mosque.
