A delegation from the Russian state atomic energy corporation Rosatom arrived in Cairo on Saturday evening before the expected visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Al-Ahram Arabic website reported.

Yosri Abu Shady, the former senior official in the International Automatic Energy Agency, told Al-Ahram that he met on Sunday with officials from the delegation and discussed the upcoming Dabaa Nuclear power station.

Rosatom has announced that work on the El-Dabaa plant, situated west of Alexandria, will start in December.

Russian President Putin will arrive in Cairo for a visit on Monday. According to Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, the talks between Putin and his Egyptian counterpart Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi will focus on the Dabaa plant.

Egypt signed the agreement with Russia in 2015 to build the four-reactor power plant, which will produce 4,800 megawatts.

The agreement stipulates Russia will build four-reactors which will produce 1200 megawatts each.

The first reactor is expected to begin operation in 2024. The project would be completed in 12 years.
