Egypt’s army said it killed two dangerous extremists in North Sinai ahead of their plot to carry out a terror attack against the forces, a statement by the Egyptian armed forces read on Tuesday.

In an official statement, armed forces spokesman Tamer El-Refaie said the second field army, in coordination with air forces, killed the extremists and arrested two others.

The army also destroyed a number of hideouts used by the terrorists, as well as a 4x4 vehicle laden with explosives and six improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

Another car carrying explosive materials was also seized by the authorities.

“The second field army continues its efforts to eliminate criminal and extremist elements in North Sinai,” the statement concluded.
