Egypt's foreign ministry spokesperson has offered Egypt's "deepest condolences" to Russia over the crash of a Saratov passenger plane near Moscow on Monday, with the loss of 71 lives.

In a statement issued late on Sunday, ministry spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid said, "Egypt extends its condolences to the Russian people and the families of the victims," adding that Egypt "stands by the Russian government and people in harsh times.

The passenger plane, en route from Moscow to the Russian provincial city of Orsk, and operated by Russia's Saratov Airlines, came down near Moscow on Sunday.

All 71 people on board were killed, the office of Russia's transport prosecutor said.
