Authorities at Upper Egypt's Aswan International Airport halted air traffic on Tuesday due to a dust storm, Al-Ahram Arabic website reported.

Authorities halted flight 417, which was set to depart at 10am from Aswan to Abu-Simbel archeological city, 290km south of Aswan.

Egypt's Meteorological Authority said it expects colder weather and rainfall in most parts of the country this week, as a brief stint of unseasonably warm temperatures starts to subside.

Heavy rains and possible thunderstorms are expected in several parts of the country on Tuesday, including along the North Coast, the Nile Delta cities, Cairo, the northern part of Upper Egypt and central Sinai.
