Egypt’s acting General Intelligence chief Abbas Kamel met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah on Tuesday to discuss the latest Egyptian efforts to secure Palestinian reconciliation as well as cooperation between Egypt and Palestine, Palestinian news agency Maan reported.
Abbas said during the meeting that he values Egypt's support of the Palestinian cause.
Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has stressed in several speeches and meetings that peace, prosperity and cooperation can occur only if Israel and Palestine can reach a two-state solution.
Cairo has been playing a central role in reconciliation efforts between rival Palestinian factions, hosting several rounds of talks over the past months.
The meeting between Abbas and Kamel comes amid Palestinian protests in Gaza, where Israeli forces have killed at least 18 people and injured hundreds.
