Truck driver involved in deadly Sohag crash in Upper Egypt turns himself in

A truck driver involved in a deadly crash that killed 21 people on Wednesday on the Eastern Desert road of Upper Egypt's Sohag governorate (495km south of Cairo), has turned himself in to authorities on Thursday.

Late on Wednesday, a truck collided with a mini bus in Sohag, killing 21 people, including 11 children.

The driver of the truck was referred to the prosecution for investigation. 

The mini bus driver was killed in the crash.

All those killed in the crash were from Esna in neighbouring Luxor, and were on their way to attend a wedding ceremony.

The prosecution has not yet determined the cause of the accident.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), about 12,000 people are killed due to road crashes every year.

The Egyptian government has been working on enhancing road and highway infrastructure qnd security across the country.
