Three people were killed and three others were injured when a seven-storey building collapsed in eastern Alexandria on Friday morning, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported on Saturday.

The final death toll was announced after the civil protection authority concluded the debris removal operation to search for any injured or dead.

According to Al-Ahram, the governorate had previously ordered the removal of the sixth and seventh floors of the building – which was located in the city’s Mostafa Kamel district near the railroad – and the renovation of the remaining floors.

An engineering committee has been formed to investigate the incident and inspect the safety of other building in the area.
