Four suspected criminals were killed in a shootout today with security forces in New Cairo's Fifth Settlement.

Security forces targeted a gang of masked men who opened fire on a man driving his private car on Tesein Road in the Fifth Settlement in an attempt to force him to pull over, but he managed to escape.

They also fired on a truck driver, shooting him in the leg and stealing all of his money.

Security forces followed the masked men to Egypt's Ain Sokhna road, where both sides exchanged fire, killing the criminals.

Authorities found two automatic rifles, live ammunition, and empty bullet casings by the bodies.

The prosecutors have been brought in to investigate the incident.
