New British Ambassador to Cairo Geoffrey Adams arrived in the Egyptian capital early Tuesday to assume his new post, state news agency MENA said.
The British diplomat, who served previously as the deputy head of the UK's mission in Cairo from 1998 until 2001, arrived on a British Airways flight from London, sources at the Cairo International Airport told MENA.
Adams is replacing John Casson, who had held the post since August 2014.
Casson was particularly popular among Egyptians for his Arabic-language posts on his Twitter account, which has drawn over 1.2 million followers.
Adams previously served as the UK's ambassador to the Netherlands, Iran, and as the British consul-general in Israel.
