The leftist Tagamuu party is currently holding a peaceful demonstration in Downtown Cairo, condemning the brutal attack that targeted Alexandria's Two Saints Church on New Year's Eve. Rights activists, politicians and bloggers were planning to attend the demonstration. "Right now the street in full of security forces. Tthey are closing off Mohamed Bassiouny street where the demonstration was planned to take place," Ramy Raoof, a rights activist and researcher at the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights told Ahram Online.

Moreover, Coptic groups are organizing another protest in front of Ma'ssara Church, Shubra, calling for the resignation of Interior Minister Habib el-Adly, whom they hold responsible for the massacre. This is the third consecutive day in which Copts have demonstrated in Shubra against Alexandria church attack.

Yesterday, thousands of outraged Copts conducted at least five protests throughout Cairo. Fifty seven were reported injured and Cairo traffic was jammed as a result of the protests.

Traditionally, the middle to lower class district of Shubra has had a high concentration of Copts. It is also known for popular Coptic churches. The Ma'ssara Church is where apparitions of the Virgin Mary were witnessed last January.
