Egypt’s armed forces said on Saturday it foiled an attempt to smuggle one million narcotic pills and a tonne of cannabis through the Western Borders.

In an official statement, Egyptian armed forces spokesman Tamer El-Refaie said the army’s border guards also seized two 4x4 wheelers laden with weaponry and ammunition.

A Thuraya satellite telephone was also seized by the forces.

The army spokesman said Saturday’s announcement highlights the country's efforts to secure its borders against smuggling, terrorism, and illegal migration.
