Egypt's Administrative Control Authority (ACA) revealed on Thursday that the head of the capital's Old Cairo district, located in the south part of the capital, has been arrested for receiving a bribe.

Mohamed Zein El-Abdin was arrested for receiving EGP 1 million from a demolition contractor working with the district, the ACA said in a statement.

The statement added that the head of the district allegedly received the bribe in return for disbursing funds owed to the contractor by the district.

The ACA, the country's anti-corruption watchdog, has in recent months opened several graft-related cases involving top state officials, including the head of the country's Customs Authority in July, the head of Haram district in August, the head of the state Food Industries Holding Company in May, and the Menoufiya governor in January.
