Egypt has decided on Sunday to shut down six ports due to bad weather, state-run news agency MENA reported.

The ports of Suez and Zeitiyat were closed at Sunday noon due to the unstable weather and the turbulent Red Sea.

Adabiya and Ain Sokhna ports, in the same governorate, have also been closed, according to local media.

The Alexandria governorate ports of Alexandria and Dekheila on the Mediterranean have also been also shut down, according to statements by the spokesperson of the Alexandria Port Authority Reda Al-Ghandour.

However, the loading and unloading of docked vessels has continued despite the closures, according to Al-Ghandour.

Egypt has been hit with a wave of unstable weather stirring sand and dust, and affecting maritime navigation in both the Red Sea and the Mediterranean.

The coming few days are expected to come with dusty winds, rain and cold weather.
