Egypt's Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly made on Saturday his second visit to Cairo International Stadium to stand on the development works carried out in preparation for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2019), to be held in Egypt in June and July.
Upon his arrival at the stadium, Madbouly held a meeting with Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi, chairman of the Cairo stadium authority Ali Darwish, head of the Egyptian Football Association Hany Abu Reida and chairman of the Arab Contractors company Mohsen Salah.
The meeting touched on the plan drawn up to upgrade the Cairo stadium.
After the meeting, the premier inspected the pitch, the stadium and its affiliate buildings to see for himself what has been achieved on the ground.
Madbouly issued directives to officials to complete all preparations and development works at the stadium in a maximum of three months.
He also gave orders to facilitate the entry and exit of fans during the time of matches of the tournament in which 24 African teams are participating.
Meanwhile, the prime minister said hosting the Africa Cup of Nations comes in light of the political leadership’s interest in fostering relations with African countries.
It also coincides with Egypt’s chairmanship of the African Union in 2019, he added.
