Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi met on Sunday his Portuguese Defence Minister João Gomes Cravinho in Cairo to discuss military cooperation, a statement by Egyptian presidential spokesperson Bassam Rady said.

The Portuguese defense minister said that Egypt has succeeded in restoring security and stability in a very turbulent regional environment. Cravinho said that this successful experience led by President El-Sisi over the last five years is an inspiring lesson for all countries in the region.

In April 2018, El-Sisi met with his Portugese counterpart Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa in Cairo.

The two leaders agreed to activate agreements and memorandums of understanding to develop partnership and increase trade exchange and investments in different domains.

Ahead of de Sousa's Cairo visit, El-Sisi visited Lisbon in 2016 to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
