Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi inspected on Tuesday the combat efficiency and preparedness of the forces at the Mohamed Naguib Military Base west of Alexandria.

Accompanied by army officials and groups of students from different Egyptian universities, colleges and military institutes, the president inspected the forces to ensure their readiness and ability to carry out various tasks.

El-Sisi also inspected the latest combat and technical systems along with a number of officers representing the main branches of the Armed Forces.

The inspection procedures were attended Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Defence Mohamed Zaki, and the Chief-of-Staff of the Armed Forces Mohamed Farid.

The tour was also attended by Egypt's Coptic Orthodox Pope Tawadros II, a number of ministers and governors, media and public figures and military attachés of some friendly countries.

Mohamed Naguib Military Base is located in Al-Hammam area, west of Alexandria city.

The base, which was inaugurated in July 2017, is reportedly the largest in the Middle East, consisting of 1,155 buildings and facilities.

The military base serves as a headquarters for some forces with the Northern Military Unit, which aims to increase efficiency in protecting the west of Alexandria, the North Coast, the currently under-construction Dabaa nuclear power plant, oil fields, New El-Alamein City, and other sites.

The base is named after Mohamed Naguib, the primary leader of the Egyptian revolution in 1952 and the first president of the Republic of Egypt after its establishment on 18 June 1953.
