Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi stressed Monday that the advancement of human rights is a top national priority for the country's Vision 2030.

The president gave his remarks during a meeting with Chairperson of the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights (ACHPR) Commissioner Soyata Maiga.

El-Sisi posted the commissioner on the efforts the government exerted over the past years to improve the economic, social, living as well as service-related conditions in Egypt, especially with regard to removing slums and providing proper housing for about 1 million citizens living in unsafe areas.

At the healthcare level, the president also reviewed the government campaigns to eliminate hepatitis C virus and put an end to the patient waiting list system, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said.

In addition, the president shed the light on the unprecedented development in the education sector, social insurance and women empowerment programs as well as other social programs aiming at empowering youth and people with special needs.

He also briefed the commissioner on the state's efforts to promote the culture of citizenship and religious tolerance, Rady added.

For her part, Maiga expressed appreciation for Egypt's hosting of the commission's session, highlighting Egypt's central role at the African level to advance human rights across the continent, especially in light of Egypt's current presidency of the African Union (AU).

The Egyptian President affirmed that Egypt pays a special importance to ensuring the success of the 64th Ordinary Session of the ACHPR, which will be held in Sharm El Sheikh from April 24 to May 14, the spokesman noted.

Discussions held under forum in Sharm El-Sheikh will include the issues of migration, asylum, displacement, women, children and groups in need of care, as well as the implementation of the standards contained in the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights.

The forum will be held in partnership with the African Commission, the African Center for Democracy and Human Rights Studies, the National Council for Human Rights in Morocco and the Arab Organization for Human Rights.
