Fifteen people were injured in a fire on Friday that broke out at a storage area in the basement of a four-storey building in Haret El-Yahood, a bustling commercial alley in downtown Cairo’s Al-Azhar district.

According to the health ministry’s spokesman, Khaled Megahed, the injured were all suffering from smoke inhalation. Five were taken to hospital and ten were treated onsite.

The five hospitalized victims are being treated at Ahmed Maher and Sayed Galal hospitals, Megahed said.
