The British embassy in Cairo tweeted on Tuesday that the UK supports Egypt and the UN's role in mediating the Gaza ceasefire.

"The UK supports Egypt and the UN’s vital role in the Gaza ceasefire. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of all those affected. We continue to work together for a peaceful two-state solution," the tweet read.

The ceasefire deal aims to end four-day battles between Palestinian factions and Israel, which have left more than 23 people killed in the Gaza Strip.
