Egypt will remain a “strong and influential country,” Field-Marshal Hussein Tantawi, head of Egypt’s ruling military council, said in a speech to military cadets on Sunday morning.

“We will not allow anyone from inside or outside to affect Egypt or the path its people have chosen,” Tantawi said. He went on to urge the audience to “have faith in yourselves, in Egypt, and in the armed forces, which never abandoned this nation.”

The military chief also called on the public to ignore what he called “rumours” regarding alleged rights violations by the armed forces.

“I would never say that there are Egyptian traitors,” Tantawi said of those who he asserted were spreading such rumours. “They’re just people who don’t understand what’s going on.”

Denial is not just a river...
“They’re just people who don’t understand what’s going on.” Hilarious! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petard#.22Hoist_with_his_own_petard.22 Speaking of Tantawi, a man who clearly does not know what is going on, has he lost his marbles? Does he not know that he is rapidly becoming a global laughing stock! This man has been isolated in the military bubble that the Junta has created for itself over 60 odd years. Thes e people are so insulated from the rest of their country that they have no concept of facts on the ground. The recent denials of Military violence to ex president Jimmy Carter are a symptom of blatant tyranny. Divine rights of Kings, Pharaohs and Generals in their dotage: facts are what I state them to be! So there! Give the man a pension and send him off to Sharm. http://www.arabist.net/blog/2012/1/19/carter-tantawi-in-denial-over-girl-in-the-blue-bra.html
