Military airplanes have transported from Port Said to Cairo 25 of those who were injured during the melee that followed Wednesday’s Masry-Ahly league match.
According to satellite channel ONTV, Field Marshal and de-facto president Mohamed Hussein Tantawi received the beleaguered passengers himself at the Cairo Military Airport.
The Military airplanes also transported Ahly players and technical staff members. None of whom was seriously hurt.
Earlier in the day, thousands of Masry fans stormed the pitch immediately after the final whistle, chasing Ahly players and technical staff members who ran for their lives.
They subsequently clashed with Ahly’s visiting fans. Over 70 were killed in the ensuing turmoil.
