Security forces have killed four terrorists in Arish in North Sinai, in pursuit of those involved in an attack on a security checkpoint on Wednesday.
According to a ministry statement issued on Saturday, forces raided a residential building in the Abu Ayta area of Arish city which was being used a hideout.
"An exchange of fire took place and four of the terrorist elements were killed," said the statement.
Three automatic rifles and an explosive belt were found in the hideout, the statement read.
On Wednesday five terrorists and eight Egyptian policemen were killed during an attack on a security checkpoint south ofArish.
An Islamic State affiliate claimed responsibility in an online statement.
Hundreds of Egyptian police officers and soldiers have been killed in terrorist attacks in the last five years in North Sinai.
In February 2018, the military launched a nationwide offensive against Islamist terrorists, focused mainly on northern part of the Sinai peninsula.
According to official figures, around 650 terrorists have been killed since the start of the operation, while the military has lost some 50 soldiers.
