Military and security forces in Suez returned to the city's security directorate and provincial administration headquarters. The two complexes were evacuated on Jannuary 25 2012, the first anniversary of the start of the Egyptian revolution.
After the death of 74 people in the Port Said football disaster on Wednesday, protesters clashed with security forces in Cairo and Suez. According to the Egyptian Ministry of Health, two protesters were killed during the clashes in Suez and one in Cairo. The ministry also reports 1,690 injuries.
On 25 January, the anniversary of the Egypt’s January 25 revolution, Suez saw the largest mass demonstrations since last year’s 28 January “Friday of Rage,” with thousands of protesters marching to the city’s centrally-located Arbaeen Square to voice opposition to military rule.
The first casualties of the January uprising that toppled president Hosni Mubarak were in the canal city.
